Does anyone have a suggestion for controlling weeds in a vegetable garden?
I tell you what, if I can grow my veggies as well as I grow weeds I'm gonna have more than we can handle! This gardening thing is a bit overwhelming and harder work than I thought. I went out in my garden and handpicked a bunch of weeds. I feel like I pulled every muscle in my body and just as the pain in my back seemed to go away there are more weeds that need pulled. I think my problem is that I want the results without any of the work involved (which is my same view on weight loss ;).
On a good note: I have some veggies peaking out of the grown. My red onions, green onions, garlic, broccoli, and radishes are all doing pretty good. Hopefully they all grow up to be delicious plants that can fill my belly all summer long!

I am starting a similar endeavor! However, the poop in your garden may be a good thing! I till up the ground and apply about 4 inches of cow yard scrapings. The manure provides great nutrients for the crop and then the straw/hay in it also keeps the weeds out! And besides everything around here smells like shit (literally) anyway, not any different!
ReplyDeleteYour assortment is a lot more than me, but I am working against a lot of odds! The garden is right next to the field, and Al has a tendency to spray our garden and thus kills it! This year the corn will get sprayed early, so maybe this will help! Also, we have 4 dogs, 6 chickens, a goat, 2 horses and however many other wild critters that decide to wander into the yard! It is an ongoing battle! Though the dogs are more lazy this year, so they should avoid the garden... It's that damn Briar Rose the goat! He eats everything (yes it's a HE, but according to Logan "He is neutered, so we can name him anything"--I don't even want to know how she knows that). I am keeping a blog on our current happenings! Follow me! I've just started updating more... We are working a lot right now @ work, but I am planning a big vacay and hopefully Al puts on his big boy panties and decides if he wants to get married... The ball's in his court!
Take care, and good luck... I tell you the Shit is where it's at... Literally...! And you wash your food anyway!
Happy Gardening!
